EDCO TO HOST CENTRAL OREGON’S SECOND ANNUAL INDUSTRY WEEK
Economic Development for Central Oregon (EDCO) is hosting its second annual Industry Week celebration from October 10-14, in recognition of Central Oregon’s primary employers*. The week features a series of regional events designed to provide useful resources and information for entrepreneurs and primary employers in the manufacturing and technology sectors.
Industry Week events include several round table discussions between businesses and city officials, a lean manufacturing seminar, an export assistance workshop, the LaunchPad Innovation & Technology Expo, the Bend Venture Conference, and EDCO’s 2005 Annual Awards reception.
“The health of our regional economy depends on the diversity and strength of these industries,” asserts EDCO Board President Parrish Van Wert of the Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce. “At EDCO, we work with employers every day who are quietly creating new jobs and making significant capital investments. Without question, their contributions have a tremendous impact on the business landscape here. Industry Week is an opportunity to recognize this impact and ensure that companies have the resources they need to grow and expand.”

*What is a Primary Employer?
Most economic development organizations across the country focus their efforts on growing primary employment that will, in turn, support secondary employers and the entire economy. Primary employers, typically in the manufacturing and technology sectors, are generally defined as companies that export a majority (75%) of their goods or services outside a local or regional market area. Secondary employers include commercial and retail trade, housing, professional services and health care. Revenues generated by primary employers expand the local or regional "economic pie", while secondary employers tend to compete for customers and market share or a piece of that economic pie.
