TOYOTA HR & MANUFACTURING AUTHORITY LEADS FEB 1ST CENTRAL OREGON WORKSHOP

The High Desert Enterprise Consortium (HiDEC) is sponsoring a full day workshop at Eagle Crest Resort on February 1st with Mike Hoseus, corporate leader with Toyota for over 12 years. The workshop explores how Toyota creates and maintains a culture that sustains consistent growth, innovation, and profitability between the company and its employees.

Hoseus is considered one of the world's preeminent Toyota authorities and is now executive director of the Center for Quality People and Organizations, Inc., a Toyota-backed organization founded to assist business implement a continuous improvement culture through a problem solving process that is inclusive of its members. He also is senior consultant with Lean Consulting Associates LLC, a group of retired and former Toyota executives as well as senior managers of Toyota key suppliers.

For the start up of Toyota’s first greenfield plant in North America (Georgetown, KY), Hoseus received in-depth Toyota training in Japan to prepare for his front line supervisory responsibilities in manufacturing. With continued training from Japanese trainers and executives, he quickly rose through the ranks to Assistant General Manager responsible for vehicle assembly operations, maintenance and engineering. As Assistant General Manager in Human Resources, his responsibilities included personnel, safety, HR development, employee relations, benefits, training, and manufacturing/human resource teams for a plant of 8,000 team members. His major initiative was development of the enhanced relationship between Human Resources and Manufacturing. Hoseus is a Toyota Certified Trainer in Global Problem Solving & Waste Reduction, Standardized Work and Kaizen Events.

Hoseus is also co-author of Toyota Culture: The Heart and Soul of the Toyota Way, written with Dr. Jeffrey Liker, industrial and operations professor and director of the Japan Technology Management Program at the University of Michigan. In the book's predecessor, the international bestseller The Toyota Way, Liker revealed the 14 management principles behind Toyota's worldwide reputation for quality and reliability.  In the follow-on, the just released The Toyota Culture, Liker and Hoseus examine the people side of the equation, sharing how Toyota selects, develops, and motivates its people to become committed to building high-quality products.

"While we expect manufacturers will get a lot out of this event," said Eric Strobel, EDCO business development manager, "it really has enormous application to all of Central Oregon's business community. Mike is the kind of guy who can help managers build -- by design, not by default -- the culture they need to support product and service excellence."

Workshop attendees will experience an environment that encourages two-way discussions and have the opportunity to develop practical ideas of how to adopt Toyota's approach to their particular businesses.
